Copper Clench Nails

As part of our partnership with Strawbery Banke Museum, we operate the last three clench nail making machines in the United States and produce cut copper clench nails for boat builders and other crafts people and hobbyists.

Copper Clench Nail Features
  • Large thick heads that strongly resist pulling through the plank, even under severe strain, and are not easily weakened when finish-sanding flush or when refinishing later.
  • Shank is a robust cylinder at the head end and a square cut taper from the midpoint to the tip.
  • Taper ensures that the tip bends more easily than the shank, curling over to clench with little tendency to cripple the shank even in soft planking.
  • Tapering tip is square-sectioned so that it bends more easily in one plane and lies flat to the surface when clenched.
  • Square section resists working and loosening under severe strain.
  • Copper nails are in half-hard state so that clenching further work-hardens them to their optimum strength and toughness to resist straightening under stress.
